FAQ

Does homeopathy really work?

Yes—or else it wouldn't be the fastest-growing form of health care in the world.  You don't get popularity like that without real results (not the placebo effect!)

Furthermore, homeopathy has been proven effective in many scientific studies (meaning studies designed to rule out the placebo effect.)  See lots of research into efficacy, cost effectiveness, etc., here at the National Center for Homeopathy.

The best way to determine for  yourself whether it works is to try it.  Fortunately, that can be done for minimal expense.  Your local health food store probably sells homeopathic remedies.  Here are a few for common problems.  Ask for them in the 30C potency except where otherwise specified.

Arnica -- the ultimate first aid remedy.  For any physical injury; reduces pain and shock, helps body reabsorb fluid which causes bruising.

Baby teething?  Chamomilla.  ("Mommy's sanity saver.")

Flu with chills, fever, aches (but not stomach flu): Oscillococcinum 200K by Boiron (or equivalent from another homeopathic pharmacy).

Coughs and colds: look for brand-name combination remedies.  These combine several well-known remedies for the condition, covering a high percentage of typical coughs and colds.

Joint problems, pain or arthritis, that gets worse when you are still but improves after motion (think "rusty hinge"): Rhus toxicodendron.

Is homeopathy safe?

Yes. Homeopathic remedies are FDA-approved in the USA and manufactured according to stringent international standards. They are completely non-toxic and produce no side effects. In the two centuries in which they’ve been used, they have caused no recorded deaths, have been the cause of no lawsuits and have never been recalled. They are safe for newborns, children, seniors and pregnant and nursing women and the elderly.

What is Sequential Homeopathy?

Sequential Homeopathy (SH) is a modern innovation, originally conceived by Dr. Jean Elmiger to counteract the many and complex toxicities and traumas that people suffer in the modern world, which can make improvement with a single remedy impossible. SH addresses each individual trauma or toxic exposure, in reverse order of their occurrence—removing the accumulated layers of disease, to rediscover the original state of health. Supportive remedies are given throughout to aid the body in the healing/detoxification process.

Detractors of SH claim that it is "routinism," i.e. not sufficiently individualized to the client. In truth, however, no two people have the same timeline, or are affected quite the same way by the same traumas, so that SH is individualized by its very nature. A good sequential homeopath always follows the symptoms closely throughout the healing process, and uses them as well as the timeline as a guide to choosing the next remedies. Detractors also claim that SH violates principles laid out by the founder of homeopathy, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann; but it makes use of, rather than violating, those which are genuine laws of nature.

What is Classical Homeopathy?

Classical homeopathy is homeopathy practiced in a style similar to the original practices of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, and his colleagues: one remedy at a time, selected based strictly on a client’s particular symptoms and traits. I use it purely in cases of acute disease, post-injury therapy and, more rarely, chronic disease.  The key point is matching remedy symptoms to the person's symptoms.

Can homeopathy be done by distance?

Yes—in fact most of my clients I work with that way. I use phone and email to communicate, and remedies are sent through the postal service. I ask you to send me photographs, and video if possible, of yourself/your child.
